Before the Business, There Is God

"Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the Lord's blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior." Psalm 24:4-5 (NLT)

One of the easiest ways to grow your business is to be relationship focused.

When people know you are genuinely for them, they will willingly be for you. And they will tell others to be for you as well. Having a relationship with the people you want to view you as the expert, as the go-to, as the trusted voice in your space, that matters. That is real and that is necessary.

But your relationship with and to the One who sent you forward to build? That is another thing entirely. Actually, it is the most important thing. It is the only thing that makes every other relationship sustainable.

It is easy to allow your mind to be consumed by the next client, the next product launch, the next post to schedule, the next notification to check. It is even easy to stay so busy serving others with gladness that you never stop to ask yourself the most important question of the day: have I put any focus on my relationship with my Father in Heaven first?

Creating a space to keep your connection with God takes time. It takes intention. It does not happen by accident and it does not maintain itself. Without an intentional, daily focus on staying connected, you will get distracted. And doing business will quietly, almost imperceptibly, become the priority. The business that God gave you will start to take the seat that only God is supposed to hold. And you will not even notice it happening until something shifts and the peace that used to come with the work starts to feel hollow.

This is why the scripture above is so specific. Pure hands and a pure heart. No idols. No lies. Those are the conditions for receiving God's blessing and walking in right relationship with Him. Not talent. Not strategy. Not a great offer or a viral moment. A clean heart and pure hands before the God who gave you the assignment in the first place.

So let me ask you something directly.

What do you think about more? Your business or your Father in Heaven?

When you wake up in the morning, do you thank God before you think about what is on your schedule? Or do you rush to put your feet on the floor so you can get busy being busy? Do you go to Him first, or does He get whatever is left of you after the calls, the content, the clients, and the chaos?

Be honest. Because the answer matters more than you think.

And here is the part that nobody wants to say out loud: be careful that the work God has blessed you to do does not become an idol. Do not think it cannot happen to you. Idols are not built instantaneously. Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to worship their business. Idols are built slowly. In every thought you prioritize. In every action you take without consulting God first. In every prayer you do not pray because you were too busy building. In every morning you skip the altar because your inbox was already full.

That is how an idol is built. Quietly. Gradually. Under the very noble guise of doing God's work.

Here is what I want you to sit with today.

You could be doing more to build with God instead of building for God.

Yes, you are His hands and His feet. That is true. But He wants you to have His heart as well. He does not just want your productivity. He wants your presence. He does not just want you to execute the vision. He wants to be in the room with you while you do it. He wants to be the one you consult before you decide, before you launch, before you say yes or no to the next opportunity that lands in your inbox.

Ask for His heart. Welcome it. Focus every single day on keeping His heart beating at the center of what you build. Because heart work starts in the mind. What you think about is what you move toward. What you meditate on becomes what you are. Keep your mind focused on Him first, and the business will fall into line. Not because you figured out the perfect strategy, but because you are aligned with the One who already has the plan.

This is not a formula. It is a posture. It is the daily, intentional, sometimes inconvenient decision to say: God, you are first. Before the calendar. Before the content. Before the clients. Before the launch date. You are first.

And when you make that decision consistently, everything else starts to work differently. The connections come differently. The opportunities come differently. The peace that you carry into your work comes from a different place. Because you are not building alone. You are building with the One who commissioned the build.

"Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established." Proverbs 16:3 (NKJV)

Not after you have built it. Before. Commit the work. Commit the vision. Commit the day. And then let Him establish your thoughts, your steps, and your strategy.

Pray This Today:

My Master and my Savior, mighty are the works of Your hands. Your grace and Your mercy never fail. You are the song of my heart and the meditation of my mind. Thank You for choosing me to be the apple of Your eye. Thank You for reminding me that You come first before all, because You are all.

Lord, I never want to be guilty of erecting an idol in my heart under the guise that I am doing what is right. Show me how to keep my heart postured toward You. Show me when I have allowed the work to take Your place. I need You and I love You more than life itself.

I receive Your forgiveness for every moment I let our relationship go untouched. For every morning I rushed past You. For every prayer I did not pray because I was too busy building what You gave me. Forgive me and reset me.

Let my heart today be made up to focus on You more than what You have for me to do. Let my hands stay clean and my heart stay pure. Let me build with You and not just for You.

It is so and it shall not be otherwise.
