The SAVEDpreneur™ Spotlight: Bethany James, Freelance Writer & Creative
Instead of pacing, I began to listen to music, write, and read. I didn’t outgrow the challenge, but I grew through it. Obedience didn’t just change my behavior — it changed my direction.
Bethany James has always known that words were her safe haven. As a freelance writer, poet, and mental health advocate, she uses storytelling as a bridge between pain and purpose — giving voice to those who feel unseen and transforming fragmented stories into healing narratives. Her work is deeply personal and deeply intentional. She does not just write about mental health. She has lived it, processed it, and found God faithful in the middle of it. Bethany’s message is one the world needs: even broken stories hold divine significance.
Let's lean in.
Tell us who you are and what is your God-driven purpose?
My God-given purpose is to use storytelling as a gentle bridge between pain and purpose — tracing the roots of my voice back to childhood and transforming those early experiences, fueled by love and support, into healing narratives that can help others.
Writing has always been a safe haven for me, a quiet space where I could process feelings I didn’t yet have the words for. My family believes that the beginning of my mental health struggles can be traced to my early years. They sensed I was different. What started as a form of personal expression has blossomed into a calling as a compassionate freelance writer, poet, and mental health advocate.
Through my work, I try to give voice to those who are unseen and unheard, sharing the ongoing process of healing. I am called to craft stories that not only showcase resilience but also gently guide others on their own paths toward wholeness, faith, and self-discovery.
My purpose extends beyond writing — to offer hope, affirmation, and reassurance that even fragmented stories hold divine significance.
What does it mean to be saved and how do you live a saved lifestyle?
God is worthy of it all. Being saved is a lifestyle and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
In the Christian faith, being saved refers to receiving God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ — it is about a restored relationship with God, forgiveness, and eternal life. It is not something earned by intelligence, ability, or performance.
Being saved is not about what you can intellectually explain. It is about God’s grace reaching you exactly where you are. For those navigating significant mental health challenges, most Christian theology emphasizes God’s mercy, justice, and understanding of the heart. He meets every person — at every level of ability — with the same love.
Many of us want to be successful. What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, is when healing becomes visible — not just in my own life, but in the lives of others. It’s witnessing someone feel seen, heard, and restored because they encountered a story that reflected their own.
For a long time, success looked like survival. But as I grew in faith and self-awareness, it became about alignment — being obedient to God, honoring my healing, and using my story to serve others. Through servant leadership, I use storytelling and wearable art to create spaces where mental health patients can reclaim their voices. I believe our stories carry both memory and medicine, and when we share them, we give others permission to do the same.
Success is not just what I build — it’s what breaks open in others: courage, honesty, and the freedom to live with purpose.
What does having “vision” mean to you? What is your vision?
My vision is to create a world where storytelling and wearable art serve as pathways to healing for mental health patients. Through servant leadership, I aim to transform personal narratives into collective restoration — empowering individuals to express, embody, and wear their healing with dignity. By merging poetry, mental health advocacy, and creative design, I am building a movement where no story is silenced and every person is reminded: they are not broken — they are becoming.
What does being a SAVEDpreneur™ mean to you? What is your kingdom assignment and how are you carrying out your assignment now?
Being a SAVEDpreneur™ means I lead through service, even in quiet spaces. I am an encourager at heart, and I love to pray for others. Even when I feel invisible or struggle with my mental health, I choose to say yes — to my family, to serving, and to the Lord. My Kingdom assignment is to uplift and support others through simple acts of obedience, compassion, and faith. I may not always feel strong, but my yes is consistent. And I believe God uses that.
What did God call you to build, and how did you know? What steps did you take to be obedient? How quickly did it take you to answer the call?
I believe God has called me to build spaces where testimonies are shared and healing is made visible. As I create room for others to tell their stories, I am also learning to honor my own — trusting that God never changes. My Kingdom assignment is to walk in obedience, even while I am still growing. I press my way to church, I stay in His Word, and I trust God daily. I may still be answering the call, but I know that God equips those He calls — and I am willing.
Where did obedience cost you something—money, time, identity, approval? And how did you handle the tension?
Obedience cost me my time and my comfort. There was a season where I would pace for hours, struggling to focus and not understanding why. It felt overwhelming, and I didn’t know how to manage it on my own. But choosing obedience meant seeking help — even when it was hard.
Through prayer and mental health therapy, I learned that some things require more than just us. I trusted God and my support system, and that decision transformed my habits.
Instead of pacing, I began to listen to music, write, and read. I didn’t outgrow the challenge, but I grew through it. Obedience didn’t just change my behavior — it changed my direction.
